3 Do It Yourself Soundproofing Tips

While you may be tempted to hire a professional soundproofing consultant to help with your home soundproofing project, there’s really no need to do so. The average sound proofing project can be done either on your own or with a group of friends nearby to help and unless you are creating a sound studio for music production there is really no need to hire a consultant.

There are three main things you should keep in mind as you approach your own home soundproofing project. Remembering these three “do it yourself” tips will ensure you get the job done right the first time.

3. Find the Source of Your Noise

Before you begin your project you’ll want to make sure you know exactly where the noise is coming from. Different types of sounds vibrate at different frequencies and the type and source of the noise you want to block will dictate the type of materials you need to purchase. Also, you may think the noise is coming from one area when it’s actually vibrating from another area. Putting up a sound barrier in the wrong place will only cause more aggravation later on down the line.

2. Choose the Right Products

Choosing the right soundproofing products may seem like an overwhelming task but it really isn’t. Based on the reason for your project you’ll either need sound absorbing products, sound blocking products, or both. If you’re going to make noise you’ll want to absorb the sound before it leaves the room. If you’re trying to block the noise your family makes you’ll want to buy sound blocking products. If the problem is a blend of both you’ll need to use both types. The single best product that you can purchase is Green Glue Damping Compound. This versatile sound proofing product can be used in walls, floors and ceilings. In addition Green Glue is from the only materials that can be used over existing walls and ceilings. One more benefit of the Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is that it works on a wide range of frequencies, something that other sound control materials cannot match.

1. Don’t Overspend

Make sure you read reviews of different sound control products before you spend your money. In addition there are many solid Soundproofing Articles and sound proofing tips out there, take your time and read through the right ones slowly. Some high-quality products are too expensive for the average person to afford. Other low cost products don’t work as well as you might expect them to. Find a product that blends both affordability and effectiveness together – they’re available. Ask friends, family, and the staff at your sound proofing supply store for help making the right choice.

Finishing your sound control job on your own is both feasible and affordable. Make sure you follow the steps outlined above and you’ll have no problem blocking those bothersome noises.

I’M TRYING TO MAKE A SOUNDPROOF,BLACKOUT PANEL TO PUT IN FRONT OF MY BEDROOM WINDOWS..I think I may be able to do this myself but I want it to be light, , so I can just put them up at night, instead of a drape. What materials would u suggest?
